Notes from Heather
=======================
Follow John Quincy Adams on Twitter? For Real? Yes!
---
Starting a few days ago on August 5th, the Massachusetts Historical
Society began offering up excerpts from John Quincy Adams' line-a-day
diary as 'tweets' on Twitter. The diary entries track his voyage
to Russia, which he began on Aug. 5, 1809, exactly 200 years ago.
The daily journal he kept of his trip -- and his subsequent work
as the first American ambassador to Russia -- will be shared one line
per day on Twitter.
"We'll be posting [Adams'] exact words (his entries really do work
perfectly as 140-character tweets), and, where possible, we will
augment the posts with maps showing his location (thank him for
providing regular latitude and longitude readings), links to longer
diary entries, and other information," Jeremy Dibbell, a librarian
with the Massachusetts Historical Society, wrote in a blog post.
"His short entries are surprisingly rich, full of wonderful details
about his reading, meals, weather, and shipboard activities."
What fun, eh?
You can 'follow' former President Adams on his Twitter account at:

Enjoy! :-)

Great Book and Science Project in One!
---
"I came across Avi's book 'The Secret School' in Elizabeth Wilson's
'Books Children Love'. In the book a student brings a crystal radio
to school to show the students how it works. So I thought it would
be cool to build one. Interestingly enough I was able to purchase
a crystal radio kit from Rainbow Resource. Guess what helps to power
the radio? A Slinky of all things!" -- Kathy

Last Issue's Reader Question
===============================
"Does anyone have experience with, or know of, a good basic course
in computer skills? Thanks." -- Mary Beth
=========================
Our Readers' Responses
=========================
"Alpha Omega offers Computer Literacy courses for a variety of
computer programs: Excel, FrontPage, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access,
Word, and Windows. My daughter used the Windows program in high
school and enjoyed it. She recommends that I order PowerPoint and
Word for her siblings because those programs are widely utilized
in college papers and presentations. The programs are reasonably
priced at $22 which includes the CD, 2 LIFEPACS, and Test Key. You
can easily reuse the program for subsequent students by replacing
the LIFEPACS at $4.50 each. Happy computing!" -- Noreen

Answer our NEW Question
=========================
"Hi -- I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for encouraging
books for larger Christian families?
Currently I have a 12 year old, a 17 year old, and a 16 months old.
We are planning to adopt again and I want to get tips on how to
homeschool a large family, especially help with organization and
patience.
Also, my 12 year old son is starting to go through puberty, which
is another change. Please pray for my strength in the Lord!"
